Environmental Compliance Team
The Agency has established an Environmental Compliance Team to enhance communication on environmental matters, coordinate related activities, and keep Agency personnel informed of new regulations, policy decisions, and interpretations impacting compliance. The team also develops compliance guidance, promotes consistent approaches and solutions where feasible, and fosters collaboration across the Agency. The Office conducts environmental compliance monitoring through comprehensive reviews of all MARAD facilities, field operations, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) at least once every two years. These reviews include recommendations and support for implementing appropriate corrective actions, where necessary. As part of this effort, the Office provides support on the development and implementation of an Environmental Management System (EMS) program at MARAD fleet sites, the USMMA, and operational facilities. The EMS enhances the Agency’s ability to protect and sustain the Nation’s resource base while promoting environmental responsibility across its operations and programs.
