A modern and fully integrated U.S. marine transportation system and shipbuilding industrial base is critical to economic health and security of our nation. The ability to move freight quickly and efficiently requires a solid U.S. shipbuilding and repair base, modern port infrastructure and an efficient network of accessible waterways.
The Maritime Administration works side by side with the nation’s shipbuilders, port and waterways operators to ensure a robust and profitable maritime industry. We help them meet those objectives through a variety of grants, loans and funding streams designed to advance ship construction, repair and training at shipyards across the U.S., to develop and expand our nation’s port infrastructure and waterways, and to promote the growth and modernization of the U.S. maritime industry.
The links on the left provide additional information about these activities and how the Maritime Administration is meeting the nation’s transportation, security and energy challenges.
